Jen Gallacher Craft Room Tour with Video

I am so excited to share my NEW craft room makeover with you. In this post, you can watch the video tour, pin your favorite storage solutions, and even find the product list for many of the storage and decorative items I used in my space. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I'm happy to help point you in a direction where you might find something similar. Now let's take a deep-dive into my craft room tour.

This room is a large bonus room over my garage. It's one of the reasons why we bought this house. I wanted a space large enough to create, as well as, film and photograph. This space gave me all those things and more. For the best look at my space, take a moment to watch the video below or HERE on my YouTube channel. Take a moment to subscribe to my channel so you see all of the craft videos I share there.

Filming Studio Tour:

In this space, I have two alcoves. For one my daughter uses it for her art. The other is my NEW filming studio. I gathered some of my favorite pieces, and purchased some new items to create a space where I could film face-to-face videos for my YouTube channel and other social media channels. The room was originally a  yellow color, but every time I filmed or photographed in this space, it pulled yellow. So I repainted the room a custom off-white color that matches the trim color (but in a satin finish). This helps the light bounce around better in the space. If you're having the same issues, try painting your space white. It really does help get true color in your filming and photography.

This side has a slight slant to the ceiling so I took advantage of that design element and added a large painting from the clearance section at Hobby Lobby, a few additional prints and colored letter boards, and then I strung the velvet ribbon banner from Target from the top of the painting to the corner of the alcove. This creates movement and energy in a space that might otherwise translate as flat and uninteresting.

If you have any questions about items you like or want to find for yourself, check the link list below or just ask in the comments section. Some of these items are no longer available, but I know there are similar items you can find.

The storage shelves are Kallax from Ikea. The black and white striped storage bins are from Target. The locker basket is vintage. I will use those striped bins for photography prop storage as this is also where I do my photography. I will share how I set that up in another post. To keep the space feeling creative, as well as, functional, I added some colored suitcases from the Land of Nod, colored carnival tickets, and some gold office supplies from Kate Spade and Hobby Lobby.

People ask me a lot about this chair. It's from TJ Maxx, and I LOVE it. When I brought it home, my husband thought I was crazy; but I KNEW the space needed a strong pop of color as everything else is pretty much white on white. I was right, and even he's admitted it's a very pretty chair. Go me!

To light this space, I use a photography light set-up from Cowboy Studio Lights. It's a great light set for photography, but I'm saving up for this filming set HERE that is a softbox set. I can get great daytime photography lighting in here with just natural light, but for filming it pulls too dark with the shadows so I used a lighting kit. It was worth every single penny, and I use it every day to both photograph and film.

Craft Room Tour:

On the other side of the room, near the only window in the space is my craft area. This is where I do all my crafting. My design strategy was to keep all my supplies within quick reach so I can spend more of my time crafting. The cubes I've had for years and are no longer available from the company that makes them, but I have suggested others you can find on Amazon. I've also seen similar options at Michael's that would easily work. I also have a small and medium Kallax shelving unit from Ikea in this space. The desk are pieces from Ikea, and the drawer system next to my desk is the Alex from Ikea as well.

The rug is from Crate and Barrel. The curtains are from Walmart (I suggested similar ones from Amazon below). The desk chair is wooden and is lovingly scuffed from many years of use.

My artwork and decor is from many different places, and some I have customized myself to match the space. My original craft room was green and neutral tans, and I've brought that green into this new space as well. But I've also added some pops of pink (as you saw from the filming area of this room).

I do all my photo printing at home. I've suggested the photo printer below. It makes quick work of any scrapbooking I want to do. It's a great machine and prints lovely photos, as well as, copies and scans.

I used to store my dies more out of sight until I realized it's my most preferred technique right now, so I moved these to the top of the shelf making it much easier and much faster to die cut a shape I like. I actually die cut manually more than I do digitally. I find it rather cathartic, but I cannot live without my Silhouette machine either. Both make me VERY happy.

I am also storing my stamps on top of the shelf. I'm trying to organize them according to the Jennifer McGuire system, but I'm finding I like the packaging a lot so I'm conflicted on whether I will move completely over to her storage system or just keep doing a mishmash of storage styles. Still deciding on that one.

In the storage openings below, I keep all kinds of different things. I keep additional stickers, embellishments, longer dies, and fun party supplies that I enjoy adding to my paper crafts. These open units allow me to change up my storage system as often as I need, which changes as trends ebb and flow over the years. I think these shelves are well worth it and one of the most versatile items you can add to your space.

Currently I have four manual die cut machines, and I use all of them. The Big Shot from Sizzix, the Cuttlebug from Provo Craft, the Platinum 6 from Spellbinders, and the X-cut Machine from DoCrafts. I think having at least one of these machines is a good item to add to your craft space. With these machines, I can die cut, emboss, and fussy cut my favorite stamped images with matching dies. I've given you links to many of these machines below.

Right now I have more cardstock than I need as I stock up when sales occur. I store my extra sheets in this drawer unit by color. I will move these to my other cardstock storage units when I need them.

Jen Gallacher craft room tour with video from www.jengallacher.com. #craftroom #craftroomtour #jengallacher

This is how I store most of my cardstock. I keep 12x12 by color and 8 1/2 x 11 by color as well. This grab and go approach allows me to quickly grab the colors I need. I don't worry about the colors being perfectly separated. It's more so that my eye can quickly see what shade I want. I've linked you to the clear storage boxes for paper below. I have cardstock in 1 drawer, and 3 cubes (I have a LOT of cardstock).

My tiny embellishments and buttons are stored in small plastic containers within drawers. This is another grab-and-go approach that works well for me. As trends change, I cycle out older products and add new products. Something I recently pulled from this drawer were bronze metal charms that were trending about 10 years ago. Something I recently added were sequins.

Another thing I buy in bulk when there is a sale is adhesive. I hate running out of adhesive mid-project so I keep an entire drawer worth of extra adhesive nearby so when I need something I can easily find it. Some must haves for me: glue dots, dot runners, red sticky tape, and a Zig glue pen.

I found this amazing ribbon storage inset for the drawers when I bought them. But there are many ways to store ribbon. I keep the ribbon on spools and any extra pieces go in glass jars by color.

Here are some close up photos of the decor in the craft area of my space. The pink letterboard is from the dollar spot at Target. The plant is fake and is from Homegoods. And the other items were some of my favorite home decor spots.

Again if you have any questions, please leave me a comment. You can see my previous room from about 7 years ago in this video HERE. You can see that my storage styles have both stayed the same, as well as, adapted to embrace new craft trends. I feel very blessed to have this amazing space, and I love getting to work in here every day.
